As expected, it<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> was</span> crazy busy fun! The quilt show was wonderful. Modern quilters rock! And the vendors are pretty darn amazing also.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I took <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">several classes and was pleased with each class<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">. My first class was <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Victoria Findlay Wolfe's Pies and Points class featuring her Sizzix dies.<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> I had not used a Sizzix die cutter before and was really surprised how quickly and accurately you can cut out your fabric. Made sewing curves much <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">easier due to the accuracy of the die cuts. Here's a shot of my partially complete quilt top:</span></span></span></span></span></span><br />

Learned quite a bit about FM<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Q, although the half-day format <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">meant there was very little time to actually practice <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">FMQ. All in all, I felt it was a good class and was worth taking<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> but would have <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">been better as a full day class. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br />

You know that expression about garbage in, garbage out - wel<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">l, sloppy cutting really takes a toll on the end result (as I have learned over and over!). Big blocks mean bigger mistakes to be made:) By Sunday I <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">was apparently tired <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">of </span>taking photos as I have none from the class<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">! I should have a photo of the quilt top before long, as I'm busy putting it together. I think the large scale will look really good on my bed. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br />

Well actually it starts o<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">n </span>Thursday - but I'm going to drive and will be leaving on Sunday or Monday. The weather forecast from Reno to Pasadena is spectacular! A dry week or 10 days - something that hasn't happened with El Nino bringing in storms every 3 or 4 days. Thought I would drive so that I could visit with friends along the way and on the way back. On the way back I'll be in Visalia, Ca (Central Valley) visiting friends for a few days and then head up to Carmel to visit with more friends and do a little birding before returning to Reno.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I am volunteering at QuiltCon so I
will be helping with setup on Wednesday and then working in one of the
classrooms on Friday. Another reason to get there a little earlier than is required by the event itself. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This will be my third of 3 QuiltCons! Don't know if I will make it to Savannah next year. I really understand when people decide not to attend because it's expensive, it's far away and it takes a lot of time away from home. I do have to report that it's exciting, uplifting, you will learn a lot and meet or re-meet your quilting friends from all over the world. It's so nice to meet a person face-to-face. And the quilt show <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">has been amazing<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">, as well as the vendors.</span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It will be particularly fun to help with set-up of the show on Wednesday because I have a quilt in the show! Not sure how that happened but I greatfully accepted their offer to put the quilt in the show and off it went.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I named it Almost Purr-fect, partially for the Cattitude fabric that I used and second because I am at best an o.k. quilter. Without further adieu, here it is:</span><br />
<br />

I got the binding on my black and white (and a little silver) Michael Miller glitz wedge mini quilt. I didn't get it finished in time to enter into the Quiltcon West challenge, but still wanted to finish it.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Here it is:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj56GJ6JgwbX0itjhjDAfS2Ydu8swsVCNdLCr9tatX9cPiXgPpTuGdcux_Ni99vqiVbd1Myhu6p1ftqrz5OChrxmdwPG-QjhaUObADIdoNKVd8Ru3yoXArBOtLaiGVIFtMTYOYnyhwk/s1600/IMG_2970.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj56GJ6JgwbX0itjhjDAfS2Ydu8swsVCNdLCr9tatX9cPiXgPpTuGdcux_Ni99vqiVbd1Myhu6p1ftqrz5OChrxmdwPG-QjhaUObADIdoNKVd8Ru3yoXArBOtLaiGVIFtMTYOYnyhwk/s320/IMG_2970.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I rather like this little quilt. This is my first time attempting spiral quilting. I think I'll consider this a prototype and try again now that I have a tiny bit of experience with spiral quilting.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And I am working on my second Q1 Finish-a-long completion I've quilted it in one direction and now need to work on the crosshatch quilting. Making progress! Here it is in its unfinished but progressing state:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoqnbnacb8zZsuJPEzmuUv0W0QKClRuau4IkGUjwRuMFVcBhfksjhN1lTD8UdrJVNQ1aJHe2cNaZi5004nNySvDKokGzxRwcLSK0WsCSWhUwceW0OxepsT2CBgHlxLpmETgFs8utdp/s1600/IMG_2964+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoqnbnacb8zZsuJPEzmuUv0W0QKClRuau4IkGUjwRuMFVcBhfksjhN1lTD8UdrJVNQ1aJHe2cNaZi5004nNySvDKokGzxRwcLSK0WsCSWhUwceW0OxepsT2CBgHlxLpmETgFs8utdp/s320/IMG_2964+%25281%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I did a pattern test for @prettypenny7. Decided that I didn't need another pillow but who can't use another mini quilt?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I've got 2 more Q1<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> projects, both requiring quilting. </span>I've prepared the backing and batting for my Op Art quit in anticipation of the big quilt effort needed to complete it. And have practiced a little FMQ for my beaded curtain quilt. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Slowly, oh so slowly I'm making progress!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Happy Super Bowl Sunday to you. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Talk again soon,</span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-65235816282910506752016-02-04T12:11:00.001-08:002016-02-04T12:11:15.522-08:002016 Sewing from my Stash - Lots of City Sampler Photos!<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, in addition to the Q1 Finish-along, I joined the 2016 Sew My Stash Instagram group (#sewmystash2016). I don't know about you, but I could sew from my stash for several years before I ran out of projects! Maybe several years is an understatement...many, many years is probably more accurate. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So what part of my stash did I decide to focus on you ask yourself? I went for one of my favorite fabric designers - Tula Pink and gave myself the assignment of working through her City Sampler blocks. All 100 of them (IG #tula100) if you want to see what others have done. Tula numbered her blocks but did not name them. She encourages you to name your own blocks are you make them. I am not making the blocks in the order of the book. I'm flipping through and then deciding on a block that appeals to me. Having now reviewed the blocks I have made, it appears that I like to select blocks that have fewer pieces! So that means I will have a number of 24-28 piece blocks to do at the end. Maybe I should change my approach!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, as of last Sunday, I had completed 45 blocks! They are 6.5" (6" when set) and have many, many little pieces (not my strong suit for sure). I have a pretty good stash of Tula fabric from over the years and like the way the blocks are coming together. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Here are the first 15 blocks I made with the respective page from Tula's book:</span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They look so do-able in this mosaic. Wish me luck in getting them finished!</span><br />

I spend alot of time on Instagram and just seemed to lose my blog writing mojo. It's alot easier to snap a picture and write a few words than regularly write on my blog.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I'm going to take the start of 2016 as a chance to resume my blogging. So much as been going on in my quilting life, I have much to report. Today, however, I will focus on my Finishalong commitments for the first quarter.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have 4 projects in mind for the Q1. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First, finish the binding on the Flying Wedge quilt I made recently:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCJi-AoHsyAQASwrmc1t-XwPEPWz18U93QmSubql9sXq6gzJl9HNCtI14kVBu2DcWE70l6jXlf7h1rHmLXLl6uK-Z1nPNlE6s5XUJSU0HrB15S_dZb6ouyXc3B6v_H9tVSkAREQmsq/s1600/Flying+Wedge+Quilt+for+Q1+2016+Finishalong.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCJi-AoHsyAQASwrmc1t-XwPEPWz18U93QmSubql9sXq6gzJl9HNCtI14kVBu2DcWE70l6jXlf7h1rHmLXLl6uK-Z1nPNlE6s5XUJSU0HrB15S_dZb6ouyXc3B6v_H9tVSkAREQmsq/s320/Flying+Wedge+Quilt+for+Q1+2016+Finishalong.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> I've been making a number of wedge quilts - really like the process. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Second, complete my Op Art quilt (backing, quilting and binding):</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-7zlfqz3mv5OkI4rOf1VH8zzPW95tKZU9vAdWfbG6goHCLyNIcX6UoNwrQ-G0LFZANe7lv_JLEioU24VaUzePApNp4Z9q4XIk3HFczVRpnj39sa4IaUw3HSCXA6r-LJt63dzXa6wi/s1600/Op+ArtQuilt+for+Q1+Finishalong.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-7zlfqz3mv5OkI4rOf1VH8zzPW95tKZU9vAdWfbG6goHCLyNIcX6UoNwrQ-G0LFZANe7lv_JLEioU24VaUzePApNp4Z9q4XIk3HFczVRpnj39sa4IaUw3HSCXA6r-LJt63dzXa6wi/s320/Op+ArtQuilt+for+Q1+Finishalong.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> I know - don't look at it too long or you could become hypnotized, or ill!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Third, I am going to finish quilt and bind this miniquilt. I pattern tested for Pretty Penny 7 (Michelle). The pattern is called Turning Corners. I didn't need another pillow, so I'm going for a mini quilt!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgChhSEjbEn1Ob1p9e7jOsbus32XYfzgdGQlk-0DK7z_fBuqlN9wZ0K2pvFwAalELKBkvxpix85wEkkk2JXtzQ_kc8iAgh1OES4VXap56_eUd-p3DSsI1Pd3d-eXamYKOiAs7tUCNt6/s1600/Mini+Quilt+for+Q1+2016+Finishalong.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgChhSEjbEn1Ob1p9e7jOsbus32XYfzgdGQlk-0DK7z_fBuqlN9wZ0K2pvFwAalELKBkvxpix85wEkkk2JXtzQ_kc8iAgh1OES4VXap56_eUd-p3DSsI1Pd3d-eXamYKOiAs7tUCNt6/s320/Mini+Quilt+for+Q1+2016+Finishalong.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> And Fourth, I am going to finish my Beaded Curtains quilt (backing, quilting and binding). You may be noticing a black and white theme - yep, I've been having fun in black and white:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsdkb6DHM-xgSgT3nPKe1pQgobKm5PAOhHd0eVaT8UGLF8cvlWn3SKAhRlMNK0F2Ozxkz8l56oFMZ9EhDlsM5vxoFFpFJF2dg-AU86N1XwdpKkKfUDpHaK9RDZGBAFwYJZK3rV2nCx/s1600/Beaded+Curtains+Quilt+for+Q1+2016+Finishalong.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsdkb6DHM-xgSgT3nPKe1pQgobKm5PAOhHd0eVaT8UGLF8cvlWn3SKAhRlMNK0F2Ozxkz8l56oFMZ9EhDlsM5vxoFFpFJF2dg-AU86N1XwdpKkKfUDpHaK9RDZGBAFwYJZK3rV2nCx/s320/Beaded+Curtains+Quilt+for+Q1+2016+Finishalong.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Many of you who know me, know that I usually quilt by checkbook - I'm trying to expand my skill set and do some of my own quilting. Can't say I'm very good yet, but I'm working on my straight line quilting. We'll see if I improve over the next year.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">O.K. That's it for this blog entry. </span><br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7w4H3ftukes7mPpvuYhqp_Er-7sMX5FEwOtWkt6riQK62Zi6C-c3Jus7lOYkjGIFixLVVdw5aKybod2LQvoMQhEKemcdd86iB4j7zCzhmZkoJOPpjzj7JcB2yFQJbnzq4_moMvmcR/s1600/QuiltCon+2015+pins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7w4H3ftukes7mPpvuYhqp_Er-7sMX5FEwOtWkt6riQK62Zi6C-c3Jus7lOYkjGIFixLVVdw5aKybod2LQvoMQhEKemcdd86iB4j7zCzhmZkoJOPpjzj7JcB2yFQJbnzq4_moMvmcR/s1600/QuiltCon+2015+pins.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I can't believe how quickly QuiltCon 2015 flew by! Many people brought pins to exchange. I decided to join in and found it was a great way to meet people. There were people at QuiltCon from all over the world, including 2 women from India. I think they also said that every state was represented. In any case, there were a lot of people at this second QuiltCon.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I had a very difficult time with registration, so I only had 1 full day class and 1 half day class (the half day class was cancelled) - so then I was down to 1 class and lectures and demos. But, the class with Weeks Ringle was excellent. I had a number of lectures that were quite good and went to several demos also. The free time I had allowed me to wander the vendor area as well as look at the quilts several times. There were some amazing quilts in the show.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I took some time to test drive long arm machines. I tried out Juki, APQS, Gammill, Handi Quilter and Innova. Quite a variety of prices and options. My LQS is selling the new Bernina long arm, so I didn't try it out on the vendor floor. Looking at price point and options, right now, Handi Quilter is my top pick. Thanks to Leona for working me through the various long arms so that I understood what they did and didn't do. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are a couple of mosaics and photos of my QuitCon experience. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Of course Austin is a great food town, so many yummie meals were had:</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Four of us shared a condo that was across from the convention center. Great location, great group of roomies</span>, <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and a very comfortable space for sleeping and coffee in the morning. Ashley is from San Francisco, Jenny is from Bend, Oregon and Leona is from Pleasant Hill. Hope to see them again, possibly in Pasadena in 2016!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I left Austin as the big winter storm was about to hit. Made it to Las Vegas for my next leg onto Reno, where yet another storm was about to hit. Both cities got snow, sleet, etc (as did most of Texas) and I know that many people were delayed. My flight was late but we took off and bounced pretty badly for the first 15 minutes - then magically, we were out of the storm and the rest of the flight was fairly smooth. But those first 15 minutes were really unpleasant! I'm an anxious flyer at best. I'd prefer to be teleported to my destination and avoid flying all together!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">P.S. It's snowing on the valley floor here in Reno even though its 37 degrees! Big beautiful flakes with nothing sticking on the sidewalks or roads. We have had very little rain or snow this winter. It was 60 degrees on Thursday and about 55 on Friday. Hopefully there's alot of snow accumulating in the mountains - snow pack was at 19% of normal a few weeks ago. </span></div>

Here she is:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBwTCQpDRisHUn8qPuorgP6t7YSxDtrClO0s0AkhGtR1zKUCi9ZpgmhvIgUl_DtRgjUVcTLGzO2RGwPENaLv55gEPtSzrVCdT8Fi-L-TGMkegzeSGjjkDQ2r6tRlsoXgIhwhY9CVhx/s1600/IMG_0499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBwTCQpDRisHUn8qPuorgP6t7YSxDtrClO0s0AkhGtR1zKUCi9ZpgmhvIgUl_DtRgjUVcTLGzO2RGwPENaLv55gEPtSzrVCdT8Fi-L-TGMkegzeSGjjkDQ2r6tRlsoXgIhwhY9CVhx/s1600/IMG_0499.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love the way this quilt has such a three dimensional look to it - very visual. The original quilt is in Gee's Bend The Architecture of the Quilt book. A typical Roof Top quilt would only have 9 blocks. Each of the blocks would have been much bigger. I decided to make more blocks and make them smaller so that I could keep the strip piecing straighter. I have "issues" with long strip piecing - can't seem to keep it straight! So, I went for shorter strips that were easier for me to handle. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also finished my part of my friend Jaye's Round Robin quilt top. I was quite late in getting my portion done. My move put me way behind - first completing the move and then second getting my sewing room set up. Anyway, it is done and returned to her. I can't wait to see what the next round looks like!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPzm_F7ykRX-3pO1kCltP_uTaMozgZPQgtVi7-CFPSPxuk7x9QcgISX2Q9mTEqlMIewur89P7vN8mNC9avqf2V8XDJ-j3NCEqcYHW4Q40pING_zR0QFIFxEUqtC7aFv2ROpJVCTbor/s1600/IMG_0397.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPzm_F7ykRX-3pO1kCltP_uTaMozgZPQgtVi7-CFPSPxuk7x9QcgISX2Q9mTEqlMIewur89P7vN8mNC9avqf2V8XDJ-j3NCEqcYHW4Q40pING_zR0QFIFxEUqtC7aFv2ROpJVCTbor/s1600/IMG_0397.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also am happy to report that we have finally gotten some rain here in Reno. And lots of snow in the mountains! Plus an amazing wind storm that knocked fences down all over the neighborhood. I was lucky to avoid any fence loss, but big winds seem to be a winter regularity. More rain coming our way, which is good news for all of us living in the rain shadow of the Sierras.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-75911942430685768602015-01-17T16:39:00.001-08:002015-01-17T16:39:24.569-08:00Something to Write About!<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Happy New Year a little bit late. Seems to be the theme of this blog.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are so many days when I think about blogging, but I don't feel that I have made progress, so I don't really have anything to show. Then, I start to forget about blogging and I immerse myself in IG and Facebook. I admire the consistent bloggers who seem to have a new finish every few days. I am amazed at the talented women (and men) who are so creative and productive!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since I am blogging and you are presumably reading this blog, you have likely figured out that I do have something to show... and you would be correct. So here we go!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First, I did finish the quilting on the Gee's Bend quilt however I have not yet added the binding and finished the project. It's staring at me as I sit here and write. Soon, very soon!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Second, I finished my Modern Crazy Quilt (I call her Mod CrZY). I first organized my scraps (what a job!) and then used my scraps to make "made fabric" ala Victoria Findley Wolf. Everything in this top is from my stash:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOvHuamuyWQWfUdtRtuLKVRp4UhGsEnAS0-oBUkWvXx-cRamzeKiEItpnhLUJLMbtNrt8My-b_Oe2l-in5yFCPt0uan-wTQw5ZqcoNuJ-m3TnYfhwVnzLZpfiDZHfkCI7hwszU1JAH/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOvHuamuyWQWfUdtRtuLKVRp4UhGsEnAS0-oBUkWvXx-cRamzeKiEItpnhLUJLMbtNrt8My-b_Oe2l-in5yFCPt0uan-wTQw5ZqcoNuJ-m3TnYfhwVnzLZpfiDZHfkCI7hwszU1JAH/s1600/007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Then I reorganized my sewing room, put up shelving and tried to deal with the distinct lack of useful lighting in this room:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwqKqgcjWy0g36gfBqnmD8PVwbCjAxQK5-GVKtZt8vwmvTVl4Fk1PsMoC0bNtO32ObQBjtgXsibu_hh8O-SsSGxoByi0ueDfhM4o4dwd0cUVMLKrg6QHHxu-F_gKYXDx1uD1n14vOV/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwqKqgcjWy0g36gfBqnmD8PVwbCjAxQK5-GVKtZt8vwmvTVl4Fk1PsMoC0bNtO32ObQBjtgXsibu_hh8O-SsSGxoByi0ueDfhM4o4dwd0cUVMLKrg6QHHxu-F_gKYXDx1uD1n14vOV/s1600/023.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFru8UYTcgAydaZsW99eRqEX4ceFRNsBGL4x7CVlCnHCtAO5qdo-2h8LioIufHOIL6ZlpP78z6thWcQ5s80UgH5r_BYk469TeieR11iE0Fe3STxmNSpTtSpsFgcGUD8jBHQdZbMxSw/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFru8UYTcgAydaZsW99eRqEX4ceFRNsBGL4x7CVlCnHCtAO5qdo-2h8LioIufHOIL6ZlpP78z6thWcQ5s80UgH5r_BYk469TeieR11iE0Fe3STxmNSpTtSpsFgcGUD8jBHQdZbMxSw/s1600/007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi1mvTHfuQeZ8GlF0ceEYWX7VJ8Drq-CfbJTu07bJO5dR4AyTppHgMl45m5yrcO82CZE-3iKP8LHE3pFTCPp1LbdME4Z3eZI_N3d1qvxZH7jnbK-iObP9vTUWRa7P9smcnO_WIogPs/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi1mvTHfuQeZ8GlF0ceEYWX7VJ8Drq-CfbJTu07bJO5dR4AyTppHgMl45m5yrcO82CZE-3iKP8LHE3pFTCPp1LbdME4Z3eZI_N3d1qvxZH7jnbK-iObP9vTUWRa7P9smcnO_WIogPs/s1600/013.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Then I went back to the Mod CrZY top to move it along:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVKLgXZ7y3O9a-4V7ue7K5gpSkq3iW2A-QuIVyCdT2cwGNXIPRCQD1z4bEgva5RMCY-PeHQahrvlVXs-opdpVEEdMEE8bRbvN1Ag6D_dj4Hamhao90GiR_STnWlvfeX9n38usUfsHS/s1600/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVKLgXZ7y3O9a-4V7ue7K5gpSkq3iW2A-QuIVyCdT2cwGNXIPRCQD1z4bEgva5RMCY-PeHQahrvlVXs-opdpVEEdMEE8bRbvN1Ag6D_dj4Hamhao90GiR_STnWlvfeX9n38usUfsHS/s1600/019.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> I used a medium dark grey and then added improv geese for a border. It must be squared up and then quilted, but I am done with the craziness for now! In the future I will never again make improv wandering geese - total nightmare to finish and</span> I <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">ran out of grey and had to piece the last bit of border. But, I managed to complete the top solely from my stash and that was my goal when I started. It would have been so much easier to</span> <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">buy more grey to properly finish this top, but...not part of the rules of play. I think I have 2 or 3 very small pieces of grey remaining that are now in my scrap boxes to be used some other time. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next, I turned my attention to a Round Robin piece that I needed to work on for my friend Jaye. I brought the piece with me (one round done by another contributor plus the center done by Jaye) when I moved from the Bay Area. I located everything when I organized my sewing room (phew - I was beginning to wonder where I had put Jaye's materials and then magically they appeared as I emptied one of the many boxes of fabric!).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is what it looked like when I received it:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOwg8Bend5DWBhv7iP87_YyVJCWm-i6E2YEuF-94kuqE3RGY-HsZNJMqh6kPgxmrXwmv2HlgNIbQvGXAilfIN6n4mbnGsjqcW-PAGYtK_qblXwfHOTDG81nj3N0_t7ZFCfquxZlkn/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOwg8Bend5DWBhv7iP87_YyVJCWm-i6E2YEuF-94kuqE3RGY-HsZNJMqh6kPgxmrXwmv2HlgNIbQvGXAilfIN6n4mbnGsjqcW-PAGYtK_qblXwfHOTDG81nj3N0_t7ZFCfquxZlkn/s1600/020.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I then squared it up, narrowed the outside "block" rows, added a small strip of the confetti dot fabric on those sides and added pinwheels to top and bottom. I wanted to elongate the top, which was very square and introduce another shape: </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5BJgNlaXq5PQka8GbflY1wnplrjxOeMbc_4CmfuoexI_WZ_HA2pqcipJ1ri28rNj0FC2hgi8D0zWeGeQhvvtu3PfZNkAeIgEyGvc0p68MecNp9xt3xeTPnOEKNFqpNuAeGt82qW7b/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5BJgNlaXq5PQka8GbflY1wnplrjxOeMbc_4CmfuoexI_WZ_HA2pqcipJ1ri28rNj0FC2hgi8D0zWeGeQhvvtu3PfZNkAeIgEyGvc0p68MecNp9xt3xeTPnOEKNFqpNuAeGt82qW7b/s1600/027.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As I'm looking at this photo, I'm thinking maybe pinwheels along the two sides which would act as a frame for the center design as though it were the medallion center and would, in my mind, call for this to be a big quilt? Previously, I was thinking that the next round should be something different - more geese? improv trees? elongated log cabins? I've sent the photos to Jaye for her thoughts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have to say I really like this top. The fabric is happy and uplifting to work with. The interesting thing about a Round Robin is that you have to stretch yourself to come up with a vision in light of the work that people before you have done. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">More to come with this top and the completion of other projects sitting and staring at me as I write...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-34040477107086604002014-12-04T14:48:00.000-08:002014-12-04T14:48:59.416-08:00It's Been About 5 Months...<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">since I added anything to my blog. I last wrote just a few days before the movers came to finish packing up and put my "stuff" on the truck for my move from Los Altos, Ca to Reno, Nevada. Here are just a few of my sewing related boxes ready to be taken away:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbPkh9CwI3AtK9jMS3F63N5giFHTzpHf_qnXW0OSmgoIrs31SYAvpMMrE909eGQwYF0zB37ogO-Yw8GHNYCmUrM8ak0Gjs0rgPuBbn82YC63ImJ3axIIxtTR5iUNJzTTtMZ1A3t45H/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbPkh9CwI3AtK9jMS3F63N5giFHTzpHf_qnXW0OSmgoIrs31SYAvpMMrE909eGQwYF0zB37ogO-Yw8GHNYCmUrM8ak0Gjs0rgPuBbn82YC63ImJ3axIIxtTR5iUNJzTTtMZ1A3t45H/s1600/001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My new sewing room looked like this for several months as I unpacked and tried to make sense out of where to put my "stuff" in the new house:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As part of this grand scheme, I also retired from the practice of law, hopefully to allow myself to enjoy life, explore, observe, learn, create and grow. All things I felt were lacking in my life while practicing law. I also wanted to be nearer my two grandkids, who are now 5 and 7:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, I now live down the street from my son, DIL and the 2 boys. I am enjoying new experiences through the eyes of the boys, such as Pumpkin Palooza at Victorian Square. I'm also getting involved in the community here and volunteering with several organizations as I decide what if anything I will do with myself from a work perspective. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And I have gotten my sewing room up and running! That was quite a job! I had no idea how much fabric I had squirreled away...now I do. I found projects that I had started years ago that are screaming to be finished (o.k., they may need a little work around to modernize them, but the basics are good). More to come on that topic.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have also been FMQ my Gee's Bend quilt and working on an improvisational "15 Minutes of Play" type quilt trying to use up some of the mounds of scraps I have accumulated. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Wild horses roam around the neighborhood in herds as large as 8 or 10, although this mom, dad and baby seem to particularly like our little neighborhood for hanging out, munching on the grass and, of course, leaving piles of, well, horse poop!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">O.K. - I've brought you up to date with most of what I have been doing in the last few months. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are getting into the spirit of Christmas. Boo is getting there:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My last day at my office is Friday. Things seem to be falling into place with transitioning of clients and a couple of local attorneys who want to not only lease my space (my lease isn't up until the end of September) starting July 1, but want to purchase all of my office furniture! Fabulous win, win for both of us. I don't have to liquidate my furniture or worse, pay someone to haul it away and they don't have to buy new furniture.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">On Saturday, the movers come to my condo and pick everything up for the trip to Reno. Then I have to find a place for everything in my home in Reno, but hopefully, it will all work out. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Meanwhile, I completed my Schnitzel & Boo mini quilt for my international partner. Here is a look at the finished mini quilt:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">This is what I consider the front of the mini quilt. I actually quilted it myself (and as many of you know, quilting is not my strength!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the back of the quilt. The front is made up of 12.5 inch blocks and the back is one large block. </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I think the quilting works for both front and back. Let me know what you think. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">So off it goes to its new owner along with some little gifts. Hope she likes it!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Are you participating in the Schnitzel & Boo mini quilt swap? If so, what are you up to?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaaanyway that's it from the Robertson California household. Next time, I'll be blogging from my new home!</span></div>

I am just a little tired of packing, sorting, donating, throwing away and doing it all again the next day! It has put a real kink in my sewing - mostly because I have packed a lot of my stash. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Also getting the office closed down and my clients transitioned to new attorneys. That's been a challenge!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Then my laptop froze up, giving all the symptoms of a dead or dying hunk of junk! Luckily, my wonderful IT guy was able to fix the problem and restore this baby to good health - yahoo!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">So what have I been doing? Well, I went to the San Mateo County Fair to see the quilt show. I had 3 quilts in the show and many members of the guild did also. Here's a sampling.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Two of my quilts in the modern quilt category:</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was nice to see so many modern quilts in the show. This was the first year that the organizers had a category called "Modern Quilts" (humming Times They Are aChanging). </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">The other project I've been working on was the Schnitzel & Boo Mini Quilt Swap. I didn't have a lot of info from my partner, so I jumped in with both feet and an + and X mini quilt, using the Sew Retro fabric as my guide:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I thought I'd make one big block for the back instead of a plain back so that my partner can use the mini quilt any way she chooses. This morning I made up my mind about the quilting and will get started shortly. My partner is international (I think it's o.k. to say this in my blog!) so my mail date is coming up. Also, I have to get this done prior to the movers showing up and rolling me out the door hanging onto my sewing machine!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">No progress on the last 6 Steampunk blocks. They will have to wait until I get relocated. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">What are you working on?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />

I left out Steam Punk and a Gee's Bend project. Since I don't have other options to distract me, I have been making quite a bit of progress on my Steam Punk blocks:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnPTsWZLRa-hYTG9kSX6UUNYFvY2LIWX_YqQDBJIjHC-Zqbf4AHTCAO1LQRxYIBo52idZGQgXn6VKFlFRYNmlAqtpE0oVWwKrl5HGdsbdSqBv-Fh7AE2ZhGqJAI4SKkAegc4PuLKBL/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnPTsWZLRa-hYTG9kSX6UUNYFvY2LIWX_YqQDBJIjHC-Zqbf4AHTCAO1LQRxYIBo52idZGQgXn6VKFlFRYNmlAqtpE0oVWwKrl5HGdsbdSqBv-Fh7AE2ZhGqJAI4SKkAegc4PuLKBL/s1600/002.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have 29 blocks completed! The pattern calls for 41, so I'm within striking range of finishing this puppy. Now I have to go back to cutting out pieces as I have put together everything that I had assembly line cut out previously. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Some of the blocks are more successful than others. I think once all in their proper place, it will be a quite attractive quilt. As I look at the blocks I can't say that I stuck to my "neutral palette" idea - there's alot of color in these blocks! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Are any of you working on steam punk blocks? Am I the last remaining slacker, er, maker on the steam punk wagon? Love to hear from some other steam punkers.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household!</span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-63640581399013731442014-05-05T09:08:00.000-07:002014-05-05T09:08:40.977-07:00Who Knew?<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I visited Barnes & Noble bookstore when I was in Reno last weekend (the brick and mortar stores have all closed in the Bay Area) and started in the magazine section. $87.00 later, I left the store with 4 magazines and a book. Oh, I purchased a "membership" for $25.00 so I could get a 10% discount on my purchases. $17 more dollars of discount and I'll break even...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">What I didn't know was how many quilting magazines there are. I must have looked at 15 different magazines. To my surprise, I saw that there were 2 brand new Modern Quilting magazines. And they're pretty good:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"> Fresh Quilts published by Harris Publishing</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"> Modern Patchwork published by Interweave</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I also purchased The Quilt Life by Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson and received my subscription copy of Modern Quilts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOWhJHf-8PmVgJrbFpIvgRKohYqKZM-PGaV1SlwvAA7Eox_57gBEzgCaL5b4P0HCKKhX-PdIhU8p94QKsjGUGoyqlIG_eG6bqaSBpM_fFonK9-a40Wffr8RcXS4kFFIEKLI2iuCDdR/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOWhJHf-8PmVgJrbFpIvgRKohYqKZM-PGaV1SlwvAA7Eox_57gBEzgCaL5b4P0HCKKhX-PdIhU8p94QKsjGUGoyqlIG_eG6bqaSBpM_fFonK9-a40Wffr8RcXS4kFFIEKLI2iuCDdR/s1600/008.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I saw several great ideas in the magazines for future quilts, as well as some pretty good reading on a variety of topics. AND, they are looking for contributors to future editions. So, if you have a quilt or pillow or bag or table runner, both magazines want to hear from you, or me, or us. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I have been somewhat disappointed in Modern Quilts Unlimited as the projects seem to be a way to call attention to specific fabric lines rather than a quilt that was made with fabrics that spoke to the quilter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I also purchased Gwen Marston's new book, Minimal Quiltmaking. I have not been disappointed in any of her books. This was no exception. Gwen provides guidance as to her process, but does not provide specific directions or patterns. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">She does go into some detail about the artists who were the source of her quilting inspiration for this book. Someday I will take one of her classes...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">As soon as I read her book, I knew that I would make a minimalist quilt. I pulled a pile of fabric to start on my first project. (Most of my stash is packed in anticipation of my move next month, so I have a really good excuse to purchase more fabric. After all, I can't be expected to do no sewing for 2 more months!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I don't think it will take long to put the top together. I'll start cutting tonight...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I'm really revved up to make this quilt. Do you get that way? Where you just can't wait to get to work on a quilt? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">And, I'm still steam punking. Two more blocks completed (I'm up to 15 now) and after 5 hours of cutting out the various shapes needed for more blocks at Bay Area MQG sew day, I came up with this:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdX1BNfhO31YI6wCMng5A4YxoppMi7KZHuAwO0BqsA4l_6yQ7H1eMT2onLTD1OMgjWUEHmr6pgCpkkGn0VkadFue13dR49rTRVyD9N_KYPmfewL88H81xXMhdeyVos25QkJCv-C2He/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdX1BNfhO31YI6wCMng5A4YxoppMi7KZHuAwO0BqsA4l_6yQ7H1eMT2onLTD1OMgjWUEHmr6pgCpkkGn0VkadFue13dR49rTRVyD9N_KYPmfewL88H81xXMhdeyVos25QkJCv-C2He/s1600/004.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm hope there are 8 more blocks in these piles! The pattern suggests 41 blocks...sigh. After I assemble these blocks, I'll be about half way there.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-32452489746459894002014-04-21T09:23:00.001-07:002014-04-21T09:23:59.242-07:00Gorgeous weather and a little Steam Punking Going On!<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Spring or maybe even summer is here in NoCal. Rain is predicted this evening. Unusual time of year to rain but I'm sure every drop will be welcomed! I'm just enjoying the sunshine, birds singing and roses in bloom. I would normally have my garden in by this time, but with the sale of my condo and my impending move by June 30th, I will leave gardening to the new owners.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I will miss tasty homegrown tomatoes. Not sure if I can successfully grow them in Reno. I will be there this coming weekend and will go to the nursery and see what they recommend. There are so many rabbits visiting my yard (even with the rabbit fence I put up - go figure!) I question whether there will be any tomatoes for me. That is, if rabbits like tomatoes...maybe they only eat grass or other similar vegetation? Hmmmm, so many things I don't know! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Speaking of Steam Punking (I have deemed the act of making Steam Punk blocks as "punking"), I got a few blocks made over the weekend. My hands are a little tied, as I packed all but a small selection of fabric and it's in a storage unit. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here's what I have so far:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3yeB75tSqvhWJa7Bnqjvkj1l4plw3WpN6883HHZuWjmnTNB8Brc9UGEdgupf8diuQKUDRmS4pmmB2exEKNBqel8av4KiZ-sS4NuXlwqOHEmoCxBQUO2ethbTNUjRxjQ8WgaNbaBfD/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3yeB75tSqvhWJa7Bnqjvkj1l4plw3WpN6883HHZuWjmnTNB8Brc9UGEdgupf8diuQKUDRmS4pmmB2exEKNBqel8av4KiZ-sS4NuXlwqOHEmoCxBQUO2ethbTNUjRxjQ8WgaNbaBfD/s1600/008.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm finding these blocks take quite awhile to come together. Even with an assembly line approach, first cutting enough for 8 or 10 blocks (5 templates involved in this step), then piecing the 2 curved sections on each blade, then putting the 8 wedges together and squaring up the block. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Biggest problem of all - I was trying for a more muted palette and my stash is just not cooperating! I don't buy much in the way of neutral prints it seems. I buy bright! Very bright! Neon bright! Now I need soft neutral prints, stripes, and plaids. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I guess I need to do a little fabric shopping...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. Hope you had a great Easter weekend!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

It was no one thing. It was a little of this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq05GLilGodqoGVM3DZ43o2hEQUwuAuArjUIGnH4MTLI3GrBY9D8VrPb7hJc-d31dUuR8GwXDz7TmJapo30vwEbePnmJRD-QaxmQjo5Tr-MXhxYOvc7DY3SPhgHjYBkFYcpthYPvka/s1600/050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq05GLilGodqoGVM3DZ43o2hEQUwuAuArjUIGnH4MTLI3GrBY9D8VrPb7hJc-d31dUuR8GwXDz7TmJapo30vwEbePnmJRD-QaxmQjo5Tr-MXhxYOvc7DY3SPhgHjYBkFYcpthYPvka/s1600/050.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUDZxCJ3ThoDtfpw2Gtsybr-nic_kYByejGK7TjRgIR-aza8BvmWImVULwiCNCFMuZq5zvfrnn-Zlv6V7pkdRLhcVu0lRXlVnxZMuDA-w_lF10SvIZxxBx45ZdMmpkhD4La6Ryopxe/s1600/078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUDZxCJ3ThoDtfpw2Gtsybr-nic_kYByejGK7TjRgIR-aza8BvmWImVULwiCNCFMuZq5zvfrnn-Zlv6V7pkdRLhcVu0lRXlVnxZMuDA-w_lF10SvIZxxBx45ZdMmpkhD4La6Ryopxe/s1600/078.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That's Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk with my youngest grandson and my DIL. It was a gorgeous spring day. Have no idea why we are crouched over...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">And a lot of this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3CewQzNOgbH0ZsyAhLUHg2ksqb7V1Mikr3VOmyD92loDO3JHOJmZGuw5e7r0Bpzkf0v51PvsqOhbNFTd9uNQQtDV7pPrAFvlv5N4jHOChNzSTnkHWSxZtVXecqOMiWmy1BBw4g0Ai/s1600/Cuba+2014+194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3CewQzNOgbH0ZsyAhLUHg2ksqb7V1Mikr3VOmyD92loDO3JHOJmZGuw5e7r0Bpzkf0v51PvsqOhbNFTd9uNQQtDV7pPrAFvlv5N4jHOChNzSTnkHWSxZtVXecqOMiWmy1BBw4g0Ai/s1600/Cuba+2014+194.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are a couple of photos from my birding trip to Cuba. The 1950s American cars are amazing! Actually, Cuba is an amazing place to visit. I was only there for 2 weeks, but I think that had something to do with my blogging absence.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">The next excuse erh.. uh.. reason I have for not blogging, is that I came back from Cuba and then put my house on the market. It sold right away and I have until June 30th to move. To get the house ready for sale, I had to de-clutter and pack up and empty out. Yea, my stash had to be packed up...I thought I kept out everything I needed to finish a few projects, but I seem to be missing some critical fabric for my Gees Bend quilt. And I packed the Robert Kaufman Kona solids card, so I'm not sure what the name of the missing fabric is for purposes of ordering more. I could head to the storage unit to try and find the box that has that fabric in it, but it might be a needle in the haystack process. Ordering sounds easier!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I did get a couple of finishes. I was participating in the Q1 2014 FAL and had hoped to get 4 projects finished. I am quite pleased, under the circumstances, that I got 2 projects finished. Here they are:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">The first project I finished was the second in a "study" if you will. I'm thinking a third one is needed to round out the study. No, I don't know what I am going to do with these babies - wall hanging? gift? Yes, I did quilt it myself which is not at all like me!</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My second finish is a very long standing project. I am quite sure I made the top in 2012... Here she is - my improvisational quilt. It's a fun little quilt made with scraps. I like including the central fabric from a prior quilt in little bits and pieces that show up in a later quilt. I did quilt this piece also. I really need to learn to be a better machine quilter if I'm going to keep this up!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Whew - I think I have caught you up on everything that has happened in the last 3 months. Let's see if I can actually get some sewing done before I move.</span><br />

</div>
<div align="left" style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am in need of finishing projects and seem to find so many, many reasons why I should do something else, start something else, think about starting something else, buy more fabric...well, I think you get the idea.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"> So, I said to myself - join the 2014 Q1 Finish Along and get a few long standing unfinished projects completed. My list is rather modest, but I think do-able as I'll be out of the country for 2 weeks in February and I do so like to meet my goals!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"> Let me introduce you to my hit list:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">1. Quilt and bind my Improvisation quilt top that has been waiting way too long for some attention. You may be able to see that I've started some straight line quilting: </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">2. This little wall hanging is the second variation of this theme. I need to quilt it and bind it:</span> </div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">4. Last but not least is my Gee's Bend quilt (saw this in the most wonderful book: Gee's Bend The Architecture of a Quilt) I started this quilt top last year and I came to a screeching halt for some reason I don't recall right now:</span></div>

I hope you had a wonderful holiday, took some time off from work and recharged your batteries.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I don't know if you typically make New Year's resolutions - I typically don't. This year I spent a little time thinking about what and who was important to me and vowed to spend more time appreciating (and spending time with) my family and friends. Less work and more play is on my 2014 agenda.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have also implemented a plan to finish UFOs and not start new projects until I have completed or discarded existing projects. It's so hard not to buy new fabric, jump into new swaps or see a quilt that someone has posted on their blog that I just HAVE to make</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2013 was not a particularly productive year for me in the sense of finishing quilts. I looked back on my post at the beginning of 2013 and I see that I have only finished 2 of the listed incomplete projects, made some pillows, aprons for the little boys, a table runner for a swap, a wall hanging for my studio<a href="http://bighugelabs.com/photos/ff0b11aa8983aa12677020450114cc86/mosaic4ed2027e4ef57c121538cd382d24c0dfbcb4a732" target="_blank"></a> and finished one quilt that I started in 2013. Not sure why I was less productive in 2013 as compared to 2012, but it is what it is I suppose.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here is what I managed to complete in 2013:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><span style="font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">1. Mod Mosaic Quilt 2. Pillow Swap 10 pillow 3. ABC Challenge Quilt (it took 2nd place in the Group Challenge </span></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> quilt 7. Mid-Century Modern table runner for guild swap 8. Wall Hanging for my studio.</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I also made these aprons for my grandsons:</span></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi32H7y4_1yiTUL8frp2aBWNvfI87EHosHYehmzSQny_fO_2QKXKHgGIyv-2luw8WP_nU0W93XKCtxDgKFowB4f4kMo8XyiAkmOz2KFWpDoyd3qcFkFzSYkHGF0RRc4V3qAoI3MNWTm/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi32H7y4_1yiTUL8frp2aBWNvfI87EHosHYehmzSQny_fO_2QKXKHgGIyv-2luw8WP_nU0W93XKCtxDgKFowB4f4kMo8XyiAkmOz2KFWpDoyd3qcFkFzSYkHGF0RRc4V3qAoI3MNWTm/s320/013.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They were simple to make. The boys seem to like wearing them and they should hold up to washing frequently. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm working on one of my unfinished projects from 2012 today. I am quilting it, which is something that I don't usually do. I also quilted the Mod Mosaic quilt that is shown in the mosaic above. Maybe that's why I'm making less progress - I'm actually doing the quilting rather than sending it out to my favorite long arm quilter? Hmmmmm...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have to head back to work on Monday, so I need to make the most of the remaining time here in Reno and sew, sew, sew!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the beginning of my 3rd year of blogging. I hope that I will have more to report to you in 2014 than in 2013!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />

Chris chose very strong colors (love it!). I think this top will be a dazzler</span>. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here she is:</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxHMjnR7fs_x6j74FToYOirZoeaGpkh98vU6Dky86koDrRnc7JT8tjnRQau-qJO2T9un5P0WYZIdmf1Zj7e8uuu9LkbHhqqhadygJp3h7DYwFMIxRAezR5WIsWnOd-OfU6zipFKOfZ/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxHMjnR7fs_x6j74FToYOirZoeaGpkh98vU6Dky86koDrRnc7JT8tjnRQau-qJO2T9un5P0WYZIdmf1Zj7e8uuu9LkbHhqqhadygJp3h7DYwFMIxRAezR5WIsWnOd-OfU6zipFKOfZ/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On to charity blocks: Our guild had created an opportunity to break into small groups and participate in a color group challenge. Our little group agreed to make blocks (8.5" unfinished) from "our" colors and using one unifying piece of fabric somewhere in each block.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We ended up with 12 blocks that were very different and rather challenging to put together into one single charity quilt top. After pondering our choices for awhile, Jaye and I decided to divide and conquer the problem, making 2 quilt tops from the blocks we had.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are the blocks that I received set into a 48" x 60" quilt top. One of the other group members will quilt it with a horizontal quilting pattern of their choosing and then some bright purple binding to round out the quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPr6sa3m4Rehw7gOELq0xviDFO_JOZg4cDyfPe6r7xnp7bTRlCUozcGS5tseYvqjQXBdtIZl9_jOg63F168qhwK63QA4bFnjhsf2y_GHahSo_Ml0WZ5Lva_GRIua1y4zo9HlwJdpL/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPr6sa3m4Rehw7gOELq0xviDFO_JOZg4cDyfPe6r7xnp7bTRlCUozcGS5tseYvqjQXBdtIZl9_jOg63F168qhwK63QA4bFnjhsf2y_GHahSo_Ml0WZ5Lva_GRIua1y4zo9HlwJdpL/s320/011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's rather difficult to see a primarily white quilt top on a white design wall (why didn't I think about that when photographing it?) The top will have all of the blocks in this vertical row on the left of the quilt and the remainder of the top will be white with horizontal quilting. It's hard to miss the blocks though! Our colors were purple, hot pink and lime green - yeeha! More to follow as we finish these quilts up for donation to a local women's shelter.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now I'm moving on to my Secret Santa project for our December 14th meeting and exchange. I have to get busy, get started and get finished! Can't say anything about it or I might ruin the surprise!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Guess I'm sewing again after all those months of nothing...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-31161493205103993272013-11-03T17:02:00.000-08:002013-11-03T17:03:21.768-08:00A Time to Catch-up with my Mojo<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My sewing Mojo has been on hiatus. I decided to take a birding class that meets on Monday evenings and then has a field trip every Saturday for 8 weeks. In hindsight I didn't realize that the field trips often required departing my house at 5:30 a.m. and not getting back until 6 or 7 p.m. My error.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Add to that my frequent trips to my new house in Reno, and I pretty much eliminated my desire to sew. Or my desire to do much of anything else.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now I seem to be on the other side of the obstacles and I'm getting back to sewing. The first thing that I took on was a Round Robin group that I am in with the Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are only 4 of us in our little sub-group. I received this start from Chris that Jaye had added to:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoKDPdtgaA9KGXoUPP2V4jDXlxd8e0pZoylBkDa8-ZSTZjw-v5tIFOe88RQjdTNAr3VzHdzEt6rPkQ_rL-Ii0o8V1OmyRqAqkfORpRvcniqrBACZ5sWTMzXk3HsNPZ1XsxhQoPv86Y/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoKDPdtgaA9KGXoUPP2V4jDXlxd8e0pZoylBkDa8-ZSTZjw-v5tIFOe88RQjdTNAr3VzHdzEt6rPkQ_rL-Ii0o8V1OmyRqAqkfORpRvcniqrBACZ5sWTMzXk3HsNPZ1XsxhQoPv86Y/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I first did this:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDcoap5psEKYhbI12MuwbGqhRRJ4-8alYkFpLeH3iMU6_Jj2Q7hInnYOkq6t1WPf-a0nQoakMvLihl23ggIYlOKB3xNbbs3HchYw6pc8aS0m7HX8bbEOsPsfNhkScYDTPtIYF6yfo8/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDcoap5psEKYhbI12MuwbGqhRRJ4-8alYkFpLeH3iMU6_Jj2Q7hInnYOkq6t1WPf-a0nQoakMvLihl23ggIYlOKB3xNbbs3HchYw6pc8aS0m7HX8bbEOsPsfNhkScYDTPtIYF6yfo8/s320/009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I should tell you that fabric was limited (especially the white background with the black circles) and I really had to stretch the fabric to get to this point!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then I started on what I really wanted to add:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9liKjxy57Xl8Q4B6za8LgMx82wlz1bblm1KM8IlcXMfAVzX7pvnxxb6KtNlE78QXFUjDj4qsOIKqpDfNTi0mJmFRQNu7BJ0iwP7PUuGDvawCX0fYUkzdrkI_kBYU61LE_Q4dEYdEm/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9liKjxy57Xl8Q4B6za8LgMx82wlz1bblm1KM8IlcXMfAVzX7pvnxxb6KtNlE78QXFUjDj4qsOIKqpDfNTi0mJmFRQNu7BJ0iwP7PUuGDvawCX0fYUkzdrkI_kBYU61LE_Q4dEYdEm/s320/010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm half way there! Two more corners to add and I'll be ready to pass this on to the next member in our group to add yet another round. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of the things that I really love about participating in Round Robins with people you know is that you get such amazing results from such a simple start. I can't wait until the next person adds their touch to this to see what spin she will put on this experiment. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope you had a wonderful Halloween and I will touch base again in the near future.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-89780172390884280122013-09-23T17:16:00.000-07:002013-09-23T17:16:12.436-07:00I Found It! Follow Up to my Last Post<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I knew I took a photo of the completed round of Kelly's round robin quilt top - I just couldn't find it. For some reason my iCloud account didn't sync and it remained on my ipad. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Here it is (taken at the Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild meeting):</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir8W1b1zI1f6Q5dmWnO-FbNEtsfIz8zwHcy-oNEjwlRfy4Pfj_4CT6PlUubAAc-4t-ZSjL4JBwGc0QZ2tlLVosixmc8Wb4_9-VtK7cvsRHy6X70KQJJ8bifu9x4LcS_6vyIKUACsPr/s1600/IMG_0100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir8W1b1zI1f6Q5dmWnO-FbNEtsfIz8zwHcy-oNEjwlRfy4Pfj_4CT6PlUubAAc-4t-ZSjL4JBwGc0QZ2tlLVosixmc8Wb4_9-VtK7cvsRHy6X70KQJJ8bifu9x4LcS_6vyIKUACsPr/s640/IMG_0100.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Whew - thought I was losing what was left of my mind!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span><br />

It's barely still summer and I've been MIA since the end of July...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I have been trying to get my new house in Reno settled and set up and have been going back and forth from the Bay Area quite frequently. Additionally, based on my new found forgetfulness, I have been leaving important things in Reno (like all the sewing I brought one time and then, most recently, I left my laptop there...) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">But I have been having fun also - my grandkids are a delight to be around. Connor started kindergarten and Mason, the younger one, is going to pre-kindergarten at the same Montessori school. Changing schools was a little frightening for them - mostly new kids that they didn't know. Luckily a few crossovers from their former school also started with them and they saw a few familiar faces.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Sewing...let's see, what have I been doing? I finished my round for Kelly's start on a round robin. We are in a small group in our guild. 4 of us are participating in a round robin. We traded bags of fabric and a center block of our choice. I worked on Kelly's center rectangle block and here's a shot of my work in progress:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYkYBMafUs31e2G51ZBwV_gpRbLLHX5Ajh4Gz6sMvOQnmW6iXqj1mTndbYm0uXtncB2cgsUoQyyYGgz_VCq6MwAElxloLgayBBgyoX3G66_YjpB9XYNrtj0hmIR9HcJaZ9hBn0bojj/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYkYBMafUs31e2G51ZBwV_gpRbLLHX5Ajh4Gz6sMvOQnmW6iXqj1mTndbYm0uXtncB2cgsUoQyyYGgz_VCq6MwAElxloLgayBBgyoX3G66_YjpB9XYNrtj0hmIR9HcJaZ9hBn0bojj/s1600/003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I did finish the entire round but failed to take a photo...</span><span style="font-family: Verdana;">I really like the effect of the geese wandering. I got the idea from The Mariner's Compass Book by Judy Mathieson. I decided to work in some of Kelly's varied stash of fabric so that the next person would have a jumping off point to integrate more of her fabric. Can't wait to see what it looks like when finished. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I haven't seen my project yet, as I missed the July and August guild meeting and then Kelly, who has my project, had to miss the September meeting. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Also, I have been ever so slowly working on a Gee's Bend guilt taken directly from the book Gee's Bend The Architecture of the Quilt. It's a work in progress, but here it is so far:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIrDvRsQ_2Jgn_7I3wxhWG1Fd597l860revOB0jSfFHTSmX3VygfZnRyyAsqjhQ3jIKw5K3IMohZ4znnfNDmTRzOoo-ViHJLzlAgyLokTAf41NLVRSCXoGrDrfMJhjH5KQswUTP74l/s1600/029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIrDvRsQ_2Jgn_7I3wxhWG1Fd597l860revOB0jSfFHTSmX3VygfZnRyyAsqjhQ3jIKw5K3IMohZ4znnfNDmTRzOoo-ViHJLzlAgyLokTAf41NLVRSCXoGrDrfMJhjH5KQswUTP74l/s1600/029.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcbrUAH_CgPJXpbjeT7RSHoCepujUgLPsd0V2nzWsars3IG6ZPcpUOXkSlUeykdPZG9LyJCT4Y1irk8U7eLxW2QqeHJj1ZAII9guKumabquH4PCFMtxlNVnqWwKHnpUxdb24yjOFfy/s1600/035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcbrUAH_CgPJXpbjeT7RSHoCepujUgLPsd0V2nzWsars3IG6ZPcpUOXkSlUeykdPZG9LyJCT4Y1irk8U7eLxW2QqeHJj1ZAII9guKumabquH4PCFMtxlNVnqWwKHnpUxdb24yjOFfy/s1600/035.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">That's it. No other sewing done. Lot's of cooking and socializing, but very little sewing. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Last but not least I'll mention the word tomato - what a banner year for tomatoes in the Bay Area. I am making tomato sauce right and left. Also, I have a lot of lemon cucumbers. I never grew them before and they are also very prolific. Just looked up a recipe for lemon cucumber pickles. I'll have to let you know how they turn out. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">What's going on in your sewing room and garden?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household.</span>cakathhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13446915689809134981noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3260089819816576634.post-62988214359530562392013-07-29T19:14:00.000-07:002013-07-29T19:14:10.262-07:00I Went A Little Crazy...<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">...in the fabric purchasing area. First, I bought Etsuko Furuya cameras, glasses and scooters. Some of every color. I just couldn't resist. And here they are:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAqFPzdbiujRefr_eTRHumaGlQhSQtozy79QL3xQZtK-DrLXqfoYkJEJTeEiIR0WUcbW8Ex81NfiOomTvtIO6LVki77MvR119MMk2tSqVN64FIHl2urx7g5Djdcrik8xqvBkHJIATU/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAqFPzdbiujRefr_eTRHumaGlQhSQtozy79QL3xQZtK-DrLXqfoYkJEJTeEiIR0WUcbW8Ex81NfiOomTvtIO6LVki77MvR119MMk2tSqVN64FIHl2urx7g5Djdcrik8xqvBkHJIATU/s1600/002.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Thank you Pink Chalk for carrying this wonderful fabric. Now, what should I do with all this wonderfulness of half yards of this super cool fabric...any thoughts?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Next, a box arrived from Hawthorne Threads full of yummie fabrics that I want to use together in a new dramatic quilt. Much of it is Johari (Alexander Henry), but I also used the Hawthorne Threads web site to find complimentary solids and prints. Don't know that I will use all of them and I may add from my stash. Here are my new goodies: </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Right after the box from Hawthorne Threads arrived, I received a box from Julie at The Intrepid Thread. A box full of Collage by Carrie Bloomston filled the box - yahoo! Thank you Julie!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Here they are:</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgziWWxvB8v4kKZy5plFTQ90Xq5lc5sVu-xQCgPTpvtZF38Lo_nEop7paQiUCT4XATzyI4iXqGklySTDbZucRnNvj52z80FxCCCpQU-J1gEqvF00nTAyF0KKkmTxEukuAgcFT9btH9k/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgziWWxvB8v4kKZy5plFTQ90Xq5lc5sVu-xQCgPTpvtZF38Lo_nEop7paQiUCT4XATzyI4iXqGklySTDbZucRnNvj52z80FxCCCpQU-J1gEqvF00nTAyF0KKkmTxEukuAgcFT9btH9k/s1600/010.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Sew, the subject of fabric hoarding comes to mind. I consider myself not only a sewist but perhaps a "collector" of fabrics. That is much better than worrying about whether I am really a fabric hoarder. If I'm a fabric hoarder, I might show up on a reality TV show where someone films my sewing room with fabric all over the floor and falling out of the closet and cabinets. Bags and piles of fabric escaping the room and moving down the hallway - eeek! I have to stay organized:) Organization must mean I'm not a hoarder. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Note to self: "I must stay organized. I must stay organized."</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">On another note, how is your garden growing? I believe this is a great tomato year here in the Bay Area. Are you growing anything?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Canning anything this year? I have a new batch of strawberry jam and a wee bit of blueberry jam. I'm now moving to tomato sauce.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Hope your summer is going wonderfully. Let me know what you're up to, whether sewing, growing or cooking.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Well, I had exactly that this morning. I have not been sewing alot recently with all the moving I have been doing, but I finally had a weekend here in the Bay Area without significant commitments and a real desire to get back into sewing.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">So in I went and sat looking at my table wondering what I should work on. The thought of an entirely new project seemed to be beyond my mental abilities, but I still wanted to sew. So I pondered and puttered and cleaned up the clutter on my sewing table. When I finished doing all of that, I had sitting in front of me the same 5 wonky star blocks that I have been staring at for the last 8 months or so, wondering what to do with them when they didn't fit into the improvisitational piece that they originaly were destined to be incorporated into. But they were in shades of aqua and orange that I have moved away from...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I couldn't throw them away - they were way to cute. As I sat at the table this morning, I decided I would challenge myself to make something great with these little blocks using only my stash and what I had in my closets (that included pillow forms). That's where the idea of Left Overs came from. Turns out I have/had 4 pillow forms to choose from. Two rather standard 18"/20"; one circle and one rectangle. I chose the rectangle and took 3 of the stars and began to create a pillow. Not that I need another pillow, but I thought for a gift it might be something fun to do with the end of my project.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I also decided that I would practice with an invisible zipper so that I would be comfortable in the future with invisible zippers. I have sewn many an invisible zipper in the past, but always in clothing, not a pillow. I used the zipper I had (white) and put it into the pillow. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Just a few short hours later, I completed this:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEtPnYwJvnQ9P75F7Gf1hbI2tArZRZDbH9vzNHhy2cN9SsHWbEpayB0hzAyW04X7kDkHKKFQe932BBsLeZo3M1E6FY7dZBfj9qJ8w6k3WeU_VQHdU2kKIHZbLC5tEYFLTdsFjX5k6G/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEtPnYwJvnQ9P75F7Gf1hbI2tArZRZDbH9vzNHhy2cN9SsHWbEpayB0hzAyW04X7kDkHKKFQe932BBsLeZo3M1E6FY7dZBfj9qJ8w6k3WeU_VQHdU2kKIHZbLC5tEYFLTdsFjX5k6G/s1600/009.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHznqshOeNE_Zwc_VF1OzRua_2xzioA6vouUAY-RKCtGGBIW53L90sd_IS_DChjeImDKRgQUKg4Fdt8jiKGEz7g2Iumnf2cgew-L2YovvMJWOBuImyaoDjGdsqpgyOM_D6fXsKyiF9/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHznqshOeNE_Zwc_VF1OzRua_2xzioA6vouUAY-RKCtGGBIW53L90sd_IS_DChjeImDKRgQUKg4Fdt8jiKGEz7g2Iumnf2cgew-L2YovvMJWOBuImyaoDjGdsqpgyOM_D6fXsKyiF9/s1600/008.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I may need to work on the pillow to polish it up. It's a bit too pointy towards the corners. I don't want to be able to see the zipper (although the white zipper makes it rather obvious as a teaching/practice experience - if it were an appropriate color it wouldn't be visible). Over all, I am happy with it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">I did learn an important lesson - seam ripping when you are working with shot cotton is problematic! I hate seam ripping in the first place but shot cotton is so fine and so difficult to deal with, it was a little more problematic when I got to seam ripping. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">It was a fun opportunity to utilize something that I had already made and incorporate it into things from my stash.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Have you had this experience? Do you look at some of your "little" pieces and wonder what you are going to do with them and then work on it at some point? If so, what have you done with your "little bits"? Think about Left Overs and let me know if the concept works for you. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />

As I mentioned, I decided to make myself a pillow a little like the one I made for my Pillow Talk Swap partner. I showed you the work in progress and now, here is the pillow itself:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWGZJ1R50q8UK0GDyDWbM1vV63SZqmrFSR2S25VH15J7lQFDDTaulXIW-oH0qo3LGEyisQucxpIT8KMytxobh_cIFq4PPmlV74P4zMWlCIg7rZOg0BiOLiRX3FiAbWJ21qweif_cdf/s1600/047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWGZJ1R50q8UK0GDyDWbM1vV63SZqmrFSR2S25VH15J7lQFDDTaulXIW-oH0qo3LGEyisQucxpIT8KMytxobh_cIFq4PPmlV74P4zMWlCIg7rZOg0BiOLiRX3FiAbWJ21qweif_cdf/s1600/047.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I kept the back rather simple since it was for me from me! There's just something about that purple/citron color combination that I love.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL4hRbwmUG4yAf_KXb2RgjE1AEqxz8_601u3kuEiqb0y5m3FFuS3KJakYBgUftMMmyTbbEf-rEgB2jmGjjFLlDW-eBi9wVJC8XnoKIzGuZu0w9_1wu1R5A5QVMOqB3M8PSFtxWwFkK/s1600/048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL4hRbwmUG4yAf_KXb2RgjE1AEqxz8_601u3kuEiqb0y5m3FFuS3KJakYBgUftMMmyTbbEf-rEgB2jmGjjFLlDW-eBi9wVJC8XnoKIzGuZu0w9_1wu1R5A5QVMOqB3M8PSFtxWwFkK/s1600/048.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also wanted to show you my ABC quilt hanging at the San Mateo County Fair with other ABC quilts from our guild. It was really fun to go to the fair and see my quilt hanging there. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3sC1FSfDQEkxPbrq7-b46eJ5jmbG6SFCpoE3bKMWWRoODeTMQ5FbYRFTQ7dcmDWLWSJj1MIt2HJFqCe2Ww4yoBMa-yAJwAprzocPbkXveYW4DJJlVNb_lvm__ZRalYmTBbSHYxi7R/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3sC1FSfDQEkxPbrq7-b46eJ5jmbG6SFCpoE3bKMWWRoODeTMQ5FbYRFTQ7dcmDWLWSJj1MIt2HJFqCe2Ww4yoBMa-yAJwAprzocPbkXveYW4DJJlVNb_lvm__ZRalYmTBbSHYxi7R/s1600/024.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It took second place in our challenge category. I think you can see the quilting a little better in this photo. Dee Small (THE most wonderful long arm quilter) quilted it using letters of the alphabet. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXjA2r8gV1blejmBgQDs-ab1R3_WCYIX0AbHtnldHyJWFacJ-vfRNQflU9-hvX6wYiqMEfSZUQiTKjPB0wjSlMOxUe_RyvG88CAA7Z4ee9exEf0AI711KoocUl7RQrX76oQR5RCwa6/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXjA2r8gV1blejmBgQDs-ab1R3_WCYIX0AbHtnldHyJWFacJ-vfRNQflU9-hvX6wYiqMEfSZUQiTKjPB0wjSlMOxUe_RyvG88CAA7Z4ee9exEf0AI711KoocUl7RQrX76oQR5RCwa6/s1600/026.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I think that officially catches me up on posts. Now I just need to get to work and finish some other projects!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Aaaaanyway, that's it from the Robertson household.</span></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
